Please read the literature on pumps.  It exists.  It describes how pump
motors can be contaminated by particles of aspirated milk that are sucked up
into the motor in the form of aresols (fine particle sprays).  Some
pathogens cannot live very long on dry surfaces.  Some (like hepatitis) can
live a very long time indeed.  This issue is taken seriously in the dairy
industry.
