A pregnant mom (32 weeks) reported seeing blood come out of her nipple, along with colostrum, during her monthly breast exam. We checked some references and there are several normal breast changes and benign reasons for this. However, she will be seen by an oncologist in the Breast Clinic at Loyola in Chicago. Her questions are:
1.. What diagnostic tests are ok for her considering that she is pregnant and about to breastfeed? Mammogram? MRI?
2.. Do any of you have any experience with this?
3.. To what extent must the doctor be familiar with breastfeeding to treat her appropriately? Do any of you know anything about the Breast Clinic at Loyola?

Thanks,
Joanne
