I unfortunately see a lot of engorged moms with non latching babies on
day 4 or 5 postpartum.  Once I convince them that ice is not going to
make their milk "go away", they are usually happy to try it.  Most find
it relieves pain of engorgement by reducing swelling.
  I do only recommend short periods of ice use, just before pumping.
Don't want to cause vasoconstriction and increase the edema...
