It's a new one on me, but as I was thinking about it I wonder if the
common link might be inadequate fluid intake on the part of the
mom.  If she is reducing her fluid intake either deliberately
(perhaps to deal with an overactive bladder) or unintentionally
(just doesn't take the time to drink enough) it would certainly
contribute to constipation.  If a person is dehydrated (even mildly
so) might they be more prone to opportunistic infections having a
chance to get a foothold?
No references, just mulling the situation over in my mind and
wondering.
