I, too had a similar experience yesterday! I went to my GP (who is new), and mentioned as she handed me a prescription that although I am bfing "this med. is fine to take". She asked how old my baby was and I said 15 months. She looked horrified and said "you don't have to bf him anymore!" I said AAP states until 12 months or longer as is mutually desired by mother and child and WHO states 2 yrs. She said "well WHO is for third world countries and AAP used to say six months and when they changed it my colleagues and I all joked who has the time?" She also said after a year there is not much milk available anyway. Hmmm...I thought the mechanics of breastmilk worked on supply and demand. I am in the process of collecting articles and tidbits of info. for her. It is ashame that she has the potential to influence so many women and is so misinformed. *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
