Taking a cue from another thread, how about Penderecki's Threnody? Or you could take the "greatest hits" approach - the choral finales of Mahler's 2nd and 8th symphonies; the cadenza from the first movement of Prokoviev's 2nd piano concerto; the Prologue in Heaven from Boito's Mefistofele; etc.. And of course, there's the 1812 Overture -- I recommend the Mercury recording with the West Point cannons. len.
