Aloha everyone,

I am working with a mom who has retinitis pigmentosa. Her doctor told her
she needed to go back on her vitamin A supplements. She has a 4 month old
breastfed baby. She called me for help with weaning. She needs to take 8000
IU's two times a day.

I checked Hale and searched the archives. It seems intake should not exceed
5000 to 10,000 IU's daily. Mom is constantly checked by a doctor when she is
on Vitamin A.

Is weaning definitely necessary or is there some way to work around the
supplementing? Mom wanted to breastfeed, so that is why she did not start
back on the Vitamin A immediately postpartum.

Thanks.
