I thought some list members might be interested in knowing that Hanssler is releasing another significant batch of Bach recordings in their complete traversal of Bach works. Many of them are cantata discs, but there's a sizeable number of solo discs. Four that caught my attention are: Organ Chorales performed by Kay Johannsen (92086) - Johannsen is a real "find" based on his other Bach organ cd's. Harpsichord works (Ital. Concerto/F. Overture, etc.) performed by Koroliov (92108). Koroliov is getting much critical acclaim for his Bach performances, although I'm not quite as enthusiastic. English Suites from Robert Levin on piano (92113) - I have no idea if this is a fortepiano recording or not, but I'm very interested in Levin's conception of the set. Partitas for Harpsichord from Trevor Pinnock (92115) - This set is self-recommending. Hanssler has most impressed me with the sound quality of its solo works recordings. Of the versions of the Goldberg Variations that I have, Koroliov's easily has the best sound. The other Hanssler cds I have are all comparable to Koroliov's. I think Bach would be equally impressed.
