About a year ago I read in Gramophone that conductor Benjamin Zander was
interested in having Beethoven played in Mac Donalds and Pizza Hut (he
had been talking to the management at both). Last week I heard that in
Brasilia the owner of a butcher have decided to offer to his customers
live music performed by a string quartet, free of charge. The company
is experiencing a substantial increase in sales, and is said to be now
a place of cultural meetings.
