The first piece of music for a blasted world that comes to mind is Penderecki's "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima." This is the best evocation of a nuclear attack I've heard...it's quite eerie. On a more contemplative note, "Neptune" from The Planets conjures up desolation very nicely. And, as a farewell to humanity, what could be more touching than the last movement of Das Lied von der Erde? Robert Floyd Durham, NC "Extremism in the pursuit of music is no vice."
