The Moon of the Floating World by American Composer Charles Griffin to
be Performed in Riga, Latvia on June 16 by Putni Female Vocal Ensemble

American composer Charles Griffin's The Moon of the Floating World will
be presented by the female vocal ensemble Putni on Friday, June 16 - 7
PM at the magnificent Dome Cathedral in the heart of Riga, Latvia.

This work, written in 2005 for SSSSAAAA a cappella, is a setting of Ihara
Saikaku's enigmatic Haiku for treble voices.

For concert information, please contact Putni at (+371) 9159283, or visit
them online at http://www.music.lv/putni/default.htm

Putni, whose Artistic Director is Antra Drege, was established in
1993 in Riga, Latvia, and now consists of eight young women. They met
for the first time in the chamber choir Sindi Putnu Darzs (1986 - 1993).
Experience consolidated the group and created a unique sound. They are
Grand Prix winners in the international choir competitions of Tampere
(Finland) 1993; Kotka (Finland) 1994 and 1995; Riga (Latvia) and Oskarshamn
(Sweden) 1996, and have also performed in Germany and France. The group's
concerts include a wide range of styles, although their speciality is
music of the 20th century, and they are well known for their bold
experiments in performing contemporary avante-garde music. Putni
challenges composers to write music specifically for female voices,
which expands and breaks the stereotypical image of a female vocal
ensemble. Visit them online at http://www.music.lv/putni/default.htm
