Not unlike how we all hear different things in music, I see the pictures
of Rachmaninoff as images of a very depressed individual. However, I
wonder if my perception of those images is a reflection of all that I
have read about him...and I have read just about everything I can find.
And on a related note, new to our library...the New York Times backfiles
online. Your searches will bring up the actual clipping of the article,
pictures and all...incredible...while I had most of the clippings of
articles about Rachmaninoff...those articles seem to me, to bring to
bring such a different perspective on history...and make it easier to
understand how these musicians were viewed during their lifetimes...and
how that may color our current thinking.
