This discussion reminds me that I once had an lp with Rudolph Serkin
playing the Diabelli Variations. It was a fine performance, but the
recodring was made in Vermont, in a a barn or some such, and you could
hear a cricket in the background.
The cricket, incidentally, performed all the repeats, and retired a few
years ago to Culver City.
