In most cases I find it more productive to have the mother touch her breast
and her baby. When I take breast and baby in my hands and ''screw them
together'' (Kittie Frantz) then it is me latching the baby to the breast. It
may work for that one feed, but it did not teach mom nor baby how to do it.
In steering mom's hands/arms while vocally describing what she is doing I
teach mom and baby how to doit themselves.
Only in some cases where mom does not seem to get it or is too frightened
(anticipating pain) I may occasinally put breast and babe together in order
to have the mom feel the difference in order to be able to do it herself
without fear next time.

Warmly greeting,

Gonneke
