Every once in a while, I see light at the end of the tunnel . . .

Got a referral last week from NICU nurses for a 19yo African-American new
mom who was pumping for her 2-wk-old 28-week preemie, and suffering from
decreasing supply due to several factors. In an effort to determine her
motivation/liklihood of success at regaining supply, I asked when she had
decided to breastfeed this baby and why. "As soon as I found out I was
pregnant, because I watch the news, and I keep hearing how much better it
is for the baby." She went on to talk about the new AAP recs, and the New
Zealand study confirming higher IQs in bestfed children! Could it be that
the right message is getting through, one mother at a time?
