I've returned to nursery/nicu nursing after 7 years of being an in-house
LC. Because of this, I often am asked to consult on breastfeeding
issues. Twice in the past week I've been asked to check two non-nursing
pp patient's breasts. Both were extremely engorged with red hot painful
breasts. Both moms were previously told to put on the bras they had
which made the situation worse since the bras were way too small with
underwires digging into the edematous breast. I hope to write an
accepted policy on care of the NTB breast. Does anyone currently have
one in place that you'd be willing to share. Or any feedback.
The great thing about these women is that after helping them with
pumping, ice packs, massage, etc.... they decided they wanted to keep
pumping and feeding baby "their milk".
Both women were very commited that they did not want to put their babies
to their breasts.

Thanks in advance,
Dawn Staudt-Vanek RN, BSN, IBCLC
