This is an autosomal recessive disease.  Feeding problems are a big part
of the difficulties.  I have never heard, however, that babies cannot
breastfeed when they have this problem.  If the baby *needs* some sort
of supplement, why not give it with a nursing supplementer?  Bet the
neonatologist is only assuming breastfeeding is not possible or
desirable because he always assumed it was not and told the mothers they
couldn't.
