I used to feel the same way about test weighing, but I am now a
believer. Of course it's not the only assessment tool I use, but it can
be very valuable when working with infants with medical issues and
sucking problems like I do.
Moms KNOW when their baby isn't getting milk. That's why they are coming
to me. They are not surprised. I also try not to make a big deal of the
weighing, and explain that this is only one feeding, and that feedings
vary. For babies who are getting plenty and mom is worried, the scale
can reassure them.
