From what I know and what I've searched tonite for, Hansen's disease is a
very treatable and not very contagious infectious disease. Without the nerve
involvement that is the debilitating part, it is a minor skin disease. It
does not appear to me that bf would be contraindicated. I would imagine good
hand washing and covering any lesions would be appropriate, also droplet
precautions it seems (don't cough on baby). I saw mentioned that Ochsner
Medical Center in Baton Rouge Louisiana is one place for treatment. Several
states, including Louisiana, are where most cases are seen. Perhaps there is
an infectious disease doctor there that could give you more info. I'm sure
you can find Ochsner on the internet, I worked there for 12 yrs and it is a
very big and prestigious institution like Mayo Clinic.(if you're in the
USA).
