Mr. Thompson and his cohorts need to go....and I truly think that we can do
this ....by voting in November....and hope that the new group will be more
receptive to evidence based information and all Moms and Babies....not formula
reps. Just something that hit me this morning as a read the postings citing Mr.
T and his newest and latest goof.
Also a sidebar on foaming breastmilk....many years ago I had a baby in our
NICU at a hospital where I worked whose Mom was a Cuban refugee who was
airlifted for delivery from Gitmo and she had no family here except a very distant
cousin. The baby was a >4000Gm near term but had developed sepsis...and was
staying for treatment after mom was discharged. Mom came every second or third
day and brought this pink foaming milk that resembled calamine lotion (rusty
pipe syndrome???). The baby swiled it down and then proceeded to burp and pass
gas all day long...and cry like it had a belly ache...we finally approached mom
with what she was eating..."black beans and rice". She was staying in a
little room in Little Havana with a hot plate and 20 lbs of rice and 10 lbs of
black beans provided thoughtfully by her cousin. So after telling her no more
black beans and rice, we all thought we had solved the problem. The next Monday
we still had the burping and gasey baby ....on Tuesday the same pink frothy
milk showed up...we asked Mom again and she said no this time...she had changed
to "red beans and rice"....so we had to explain to her and her cousin that a
bean is a bean....Social Services found a church program that got her tuna and
other foods but we always had the pink frothy milk...but a less gasey baby.
I mean the froth was like a head of beer! That's when I realized that some
breastmilks look totally different. This all took place about 8-9 years ago.
A week end in Florida with no hurricane...though the shutters are still half
up.
Lovingly,
Leanne Jewell, RN,C, LCCE, FACCE
