Thanks Sharon for the history of OT I couldn't have done better.
I am realizing that Lactation is in it's infancy really as a repected health
profession. To be taken seriously takes a lot of hard work both educational
and by networking.
I know as an OT who worked in hospitals for over 10 years it can take a lot
to gain respect of more established medical fields. Any
medical/professional background you have really helps.
FYI- most OT programs even at the Bachelors level take over 4 years to
complete with 6-9months of interships
(postgrad) and many pre-med courses. With all that many OTs still don't
feel they get the respect they deserve.
Just trying to add more perspective.
