I couldn't resist a response, since I too have a son. He is now 17, and yes
he did nurse a
few stuffed animals, but not recently. He was breastfed only eighteen
months, so I do not think
he has conscious memories.
At age 11, he asked me why a close friend was "doing that". I played dumb,
even though I was sure of the reference to bottlefeeding her four month old
son.
  "Is something wrong with her?"
He was very offended that someone he liked was not breastfeeding.
I hope that he is as passionate in protecting his own children.
I am sure that bottles will not be an expectation for his future children.

For the record, this particular mother was a reluctant bottlefeeder, an
unmedicated home-birth,
who tried for two months to sustain her lactation with professional
assistance(not me, this was
pre LC days) I explained to my son that she was a very rare case,
but ultimately she had to "feed the baby".
