Rose Marie,

My first thought is, to quote our esteemed Linda Smith, FEED THE BABY. She
may not have enough energy to suck right after 4 days of nothing but sugar
water. I have heard that sugar water has only 6 Kcal/oz compared to about
20 Kcal/oz in milk - mom's milk or synthetic milk. The second thought,
protect her milk supply with a baby who sucks well or a lot of expressing
(hand, effective pump, baby's father, whatever). Third thought, unless you
are a physician, refer the baby to one immediately to be evaluated. With
the early discharges, there might be something that is wrong with the baby
that was not noticed before discharge. Good luck with this little one.
