Currently, I am caring for a term infant, now 5 weeks old
slowly recovering from acute renal failure (ARF). Past
medical history: term male born via vacuum extraction and
suffered a massive head bleed went into shock, DIC (sorry,
don't know what this stands for) and ARF. Birth wt 2.85kg.
Wt before starting

Pre-dialysis (PD): 4.7kg. Currently, his true & dry wt. is
3.2kg. He has been on continuous peritoneal dialysis since
1/22. He labs look great except his BUN and albumin. His
creatinine is STABLE at 3.5-3.7mg/dl but his BUN has been
slowly drifting downward.

On 2/14 it was 63mg/dl and today its 33. He is exclusively
breast fed when mom is here--which is nearly all day
everyday--or dad feeds him expressed BM.

He was on Promod protein before which was stopped (2/11)
because his BUN went up to the high 80's and creatitine
increased to 4.4. Now that his BUN dropped, I am adding
Promod protein powder to the EBM (1gm/100cc) again.

The "team" is concerend about this, and I had mentioned
that with chronic renal insufficiencyI/peritoneal, etc. that
these pts need more protein and his BUN dropping means
we're not meeting his protein needs. Albumin yesterday: 2.9
    Intake: 50-65cc q 3-4hrs (good)

QUESTION:

Could someone give me some references on appropriate
BUN levels for infants on peritoneal dialysis? I have heard
40-60 is a good range, but I don't have a real good reference
for this. I have some other references, but this piece of
information is not spelled out very well.
