I know, I know...one typically cannot mention these two topics in the same
sentence but I have some exciting hearsay to share with those of you caring
for military families. I repeat, it is hearsay, but I think my sources are
reliable.

It seems that a few disgruntled husbands of breastfeeding service members
have called our post's commanding general to complain about the treatment
their wives have received from their chain of command. These ladies were
told they would have to stop breastfeeding in order to fulfill their unit's
mission and their husbands became irrate! Other complaints from these dads
was that finding breastfeeding assistance from knowledgable people was
difficult.

Breastfeeding promotion and support is now a major healthcare initiative at
the local military hospital! It's strange how a couple of upset dads can
complain to the right guy (a two star general) and something gets done, but
hundreds of moms with low breastfeeding initiation and duration rates are
insignificant.

If any of you care to e-mail comments to me publically or privately, I'd
appreciate
it. How are the rest of the armed services doing? Any good success
stories? Any LC services in military hospitals (that you are being paid
for)? Inquiring minds want to know...
