Does this observation hold true for women in Cambridge 20 - 30 years ago?  I
don't think we can say.  1970-ish was the nadir of breastfeeding in the
UK -- dunno about the regional variations.  Were the women who breastfed the
poorest women or the fore-runners of the new wave?  Cambridge also has a
very interesting 'town and gown' dichotomy, with seperate modes of behaviour
for each segment of the community.  I regret to say (having been resident in
Cambridge form 1972-3 and 1977-80), I know nothing about the breastfeeding
profile of the place, but I would be very cautious about applying modern,
american correlations like the ones above to the women then and there.
