Rachel,
You don't even need to use solvent in some cases.  I found that I could
easily scrape off the printing from the pens with the blade of my
scissors!  Unfortunately, the color still identifies it.
When I go to conferences, I always pick up a handfull of the cheapest
pens I can find with breastfeeding support messages.  I hand them out to
staff when I return.  Just a small way to win some support.  Wish I
could have enough to overpower the number of pens advertising that other
stuff, but it is out of my own pocket.
