Hi, All: Regarding the comments made re: hands-free pumping with the
subsequent inability to massage/compress the breasts during milk
expression. Ahh...therein lies the beauty of hand expression. Mom can
massasge, compress, knead, and "milk" the nipples as she "pumps" to
maximize her output. Is this maybe why many babies knead and massasge
mom's breast during nursing? To stimulate letdowns? And when you watch
kittens and puppies nurse, they are almost constantly kneading. Goats,
calves, lambs, or any other mammal for that matter, who stand while nursing
periodically butt the mother. Maybe this act is a form of
massage/compression to facilitate let-down?
Just some early morning musings...
