Just thought every LC might want to keep this information handy for
prospective parents. Its the side effects of infant formula on medlineplus
drug information at the National Library of Medicine. Funny how ya have to
get a prescription for an infant if you want to use donated breastmilk but if
ya want to use infant formula ya don't need a prescription. But infant
formula is listed under drug information and has recognized side effects.
Side effects that can be deadly--diarrhea with rapid dehydration (rapid
dehydration occurrs with formula because of its high solute load). While
diarrhea can be caused by improper preparation of formula; it can also be
caused by the formula itself, since it is not physiologically suited for
human babies. Valerie W. McClain, IBCLC
