I'm not sure what Dr. Lawrence reported, but after carefully rereading Tom
Hale this am I would guess that any untoward effects are dose related. He
mentions 2-3 caps 3 times a day. He also lists a study done showing a
significant increase in milk supply. Common sense (I find this is woefully
lacking in today's society ) would say to decrease the dose if side effects
are seen in mom or baby!
Tom says " The transfer of fenugreek into milk is unknown, but untoward
effects have only rarely been reported." he cites 8 references. I
personally believe what Tom has to say, not Baby Talk Magazine (dependent on
formula adv:-(
I went to Dr Greene's website and found a statement by him. He is pro
breastfeeding from what I read.
Dr Jay Gordon's website has an entry on fenugreek and to start with i cap
TID and increase slowly. (Which is how I tell moms to use it.) I would
imagine if you start off with 3 caps/3 times day someone will get a stomach
ache!

Which one of Lactnet's great writers wants to write the eloquent letter to
Baby Talk? Pat
