Mother with no signs of milk
Rachel you also mention that the mom was on MGSO4. Its not uncommon from
information i have read that these moms tend to have delayed let down. We see
this all the time at our high risk hospital. If mom also had additional
bleeding prior to the removal of placental tissue that alone can also delay
let down. Her body has been through alot. The plan of continuing to pump
8x/24 hrs. for 10-15min. would keep up the stimulation and yes the hand
expression of the colostrum after pumping . The U/S that was mention to check
for further placenta retention was a good idea . Do you know if her blood
count ( hgb.) is doing ok or is it continuing to drop? That might also be an
indication of retained placenta. I do know after delivery a D&C has to be
done very carefully for tendancy to perforate the uterus. There are several
medical OB books you could look up D&C in relation to infertility. There is
no grounds for that. I had retained placenta and had to have a D&C x2 and
infertility was defintely not an issue. Maybe the docter was concerned about
perforation and the possiblity of a hyst. Tube feeding could be done with the
infant to keep baby at the breast.
Good luck
