I think there is "discreet" and then there's "discreet." Today's mother now BFs discreetly under a tent of a blankie or diaper or special sheet of something. Seems to me the "tent" actually draws more attention than simply turning to one side, lifting one's shirt from the bottom up to uncover the amount of anatomy needed for latch, and then then clothing fall where it may... I nursed 5 children anywhere I happened to be, and it was obvious from passers-by that few ever had a clue they even knew what I was doing. (Caveat -- this refers BF them individuall; it does NOT include the spectacle of BF 2 of my 5 -- twins -- simultaneously! I've known moms who could do it, but I couldn't achieve discreet no matter what position I went with.)
