It's such a pity when someone speaking to a group of HCPs and others who
could really advocate for cue-feeding, etc. go out as they did today en
masse to hear a well-known pediatrician and he speaks highly of
breastfeeding for most of the talk - then, for the sake of a "light moment"
destroys it:

Well, in our study of Mayan women we found they breastfed on average 96
times a day (and after the gasp from the audience) he says: "The babies
looked great - but the mothers looked like....."
Laughs and giggles from the audience - but the message they got was - "The
mom would NEVER be able to do this and stay healthy!"

What do you want a bet that's what will be talked about in relation to
breastfeeding at the cooler tomorrow?

At another point he spoke of a pregnant mom he was seeing who told him she
was bottle feeding and when he asked, she had tears in her eyes because she
didn't want to start breastfeeding and then have to stop to go back to
work, because she didn't see herself pumping and doing all that... He gave
NO help about how to help this mom deal with her concerns/fears/pain.

My heart ached today! This audience was enormous - what an opportunity
lost!

(PS - I am no-mail due to work/studies/travel...so please e-mail directly
to me if you want me to comment back...
