Love to hear (see) some input from our Aussies here!!!
2 of my 4 children were jaundiced beyond 'acceptable' limit (sorry,
don't know what that was at the time) but were both feeding well. They
were in a crib, with lights but rooming in with me during the day and
I was encouraged to feed every 3 hours or on demand. No mention was
ever made of formula feeds. Another had 'borderline' jaundice and I
was simply told "feed, feed, feed" and put baby near the window,
unwrapped as much as possible (summer baby) this was in hospital. Like
I said, I heard no reference to poi... sorry, formula, made either to
me or any of the other mums. It is distressing enough when baby is
considered 'at risk' enough to go under bili lights, without further
complicating the issue by questioning a mother's right to breastfeed
and forcing formula on an unsuspecting baby! My Ped for both babies
was quite 'old school' and very experienced and like I said before,
the formula issue just did not arise, for me or any other mum with a
jaundiced baby.
Joy? anyone else? is this usual practice here?
