About a year ago there was discussion on Lactnet about an article in Real
Simple magazine stating that breastfeeding is a waste of time. There was
rumor that the editor was fired, but that was not confirmed.

In the Sept 9 issue of the New York Times there is a guest editorial--an
article--by the Senior Editor of Real Simple magazine that begins:

Next week, my 2½-year-old daughter, Phoebe, will join
millions of children across the country when she walks into
nursery school and embarks on what, fingers crossed, will
be a 20-year journey through America's formal education
system. And I will join the millions of parents who have
been waiting all summer, all 2½ years, for that day to
arrive.

I don't know if this is the same editor of the magazine but the flavor of
the article tastes similar to the former one. In case you cannot access
the article, a summary is that she is so happy that her child will be in
formal school so that her time with the nanny will not exceed the 3 1/2
hours a day that the writer has to spend with her child.

It is a cleverly written article with tallying hours and minutes here and
there but beneath it all is a mother who seems to have missed something
very vital to her and her child's life experience.

It is possible that the article will appear in the magazine too.
