Dear Anne I appreciate your concerns. But, let me be candid. If your local
hospital rents pumps and provides no breastfeeding support then you should
be concerned. On the other hand is your concern that you have competition
to your business. Unless you offer free pumps, you are a business.
Running your own business is stress-making. Networking with other private
consultants would be wonderful.
Our program started as community service and revenue. We do not make money
on our program which includes pump rentals. Maybe you need to market your
services and liaison with the hospital. If they don't have a selection of
services and counseling maybe you can be the referral to provide these. If
you have the ability to sterilize, can you provide pump trials? do you
carry parts and items the hospital doesn't?
In house pumps mean that clients can take them with them. I do not push
pumps. I also advise on pumps I do not carry. I do not consider this
unethical.
In the spirit of sharing.
