Here in the UK it would be the GP (general practitioner) for both mother and
baby, unless baby is in special care.  My understanding is that nurse
prescribers cannot prescribe for the women that they might see, only for the
baby, or, and the info I have heard is confusing on this point, if they
*can* prescribe for women, they are not able to prescribe any of the
drugs/creams, etc, because they are all off licence for lactating women here
in the UK.  Wendy, is this right?

Please, just a plea to realise that a discussion like this is going to be
very country-specific, becasue we all have different systems in place.  In
the UK women could go through many babies and not see an obstetrician or a
paediatrician (except briefly in hospital if they deliver there).  We would
only see either of these after leaving hospital if there were some
complication.
