Jacie, I think you are correct about occasional or sporadic use of
different foods. I tell moms that the baby is used to usual things in our
diets, everyday use, not over-indulgence. Each culture tends to eat one
staple or another with great regularity and it doesn't bother their
babies. I guess our all American diet, with foods from everywhere in the
world, does make use of some things occasional rather than regular.

But I also have a theory about "gassy" babies. If the baby is "gassy" BF
moms
immediately assume it is something mom has eaten. Bottle feeding moms
blame it on a chill or a draft or the formula being too hot or cold or
baby is overdressed, underdressed, jossled too much, etc. Bottle feeding
moms never think it was what the cow ate the day she was milked (months
ago!)

Another theory (aren't you lucky today?) A "list" of foods that can cause
problems is endless, because it can be so individual. It is also
dangerous. Ever hear of self-fulfilling prophecy? Tell a mom these foods
may cause gas in her baby and I guarantee they will cause gas!

Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
