My first hand experience is that I have nursed my daughter through numerous herpes blisters. I have previously had cold sores on my lips. I have not had any problems with my nipples.

I have tandem nursed though cold sores by limiting one child to each breast or by limiting older child (one with cold sores) to after younger child, with younger child not re-attaching until after I had a shower/washed nipple & given it some time. I used bresatmilk on the nipple after each nursing session. Younger child hasn't got any so far.

My recollection from a uni site is that breastmilk does kill the herpes virus. Sorry, I'm not at home to get the link.

I hope you get some more concrete information.

regards
Suzie Heaton
