>>But remember the average total 24hour intakes of thriving breastfed

>I have tried to email Ms. Minchin to find out if there is a reference for
these rates, but she has not responded to my posts.<

In fact, as my records show, coincidentally I responded to MS Breheny's
request to me a few hours before she posted this to Lactnet. Our posts
probably crossed in the ether: mine went at 7.56 EST USA. I am sure it was
not Ms. Breheny's intention, but as I read Lactnet tonight I am feeling
publicly reprimanded for not having replied to her posts. (I received one).
(And I hasten to assure Lactnetters that when I give detailed figures,
there certainly IS a reference.)

I would like to use this example to make a plea. I am sure many Lactnetters
find the same thing, that you are asked so many questions in personal posts
that it can take months to get back to the non-urgent ones, and you simply
cannot give detailed answers to those that are basically asking you to be a
personal unpaid research assistant, who will save the author of the posts
the trouble to which you yourself must go in researching new topics. One of
the reasons I log off Lactnet periodically is because being on generates so
much more work than I can handle. I would beg of those of you who want to
know, to be considerate of those of us who may seem to know more: if we are
always answering such individual questions, when do we get time to write,
so that what we know is available to everyone? I love hearing from
strangers in many places, but I for one can't cope with the volume of
expected replies, and I try hard not to feel guilty for not replying to
everyone immediately, soon, or even at all...

Herewith the reply sent:

I'd add here: For any US readers who don't know about MIDIRS: go read and
subscribe. It is fantastic, and great value.
