Diane,
I suspect 10 mins per side each feed is not long enough in a baby this small.
 Things to check:  management (is baby allowed to nurse as long as desired,
and as often?), baby's suck (1:1 suck:swallow ratio for a decent proportion of
the feed, not tiring or overusing the jaw muscles, proper latch, etc).  The
refusal to nurse at night, when most babies are hungriest (cluster feed time)
is a clue that this little one is overtired then....I would really love to see
this baby suck.
