Ok, I need to ask for some help FAST! Just had a baby (5days old) with a
bili of 21.8 on home visit. Physician ordered baby to be admitted and on
phototherapy and breastfeeding discontinued! Wants baby given S*****c and
to have mom pump milk. ARGH! Baby has actually gained 3 oz. in 3 days
since discharge. Lot's of milk, wets, stools, is alert and looking all
around. To make a long story short, we had some words, and she contacted
our nurse manager to complain about me. Fortunately, she is a breastfeeding
advocate, and the Dr. still has the baby on formula, but is willing to look
at a few articles.

Frankly, I tried looking at the archives, but I am shaking, because it was
stressful. (don't want to go in to details, but she hung up on me). I have
copied Jack's teaching sheet on Breastfeeding and Jaundice, but if you could
please send me a few key articles that are recent, I'd be much obliged.
Specifically needing why you don't have to stop bfding, and anything on
bilirubin being an antioxident. Thank you, Linda J. Tandy, MSN, RN, IBCLC

PS, you should all know I held my ground and advocated for the baby and mom!
