Dear Susan,

I am a labor and delivery nurse.  My goal per unit policy and procedure is
to have mom out of L&D and to PP one hour after the delivery of the
placenta.  I am  an IBCLC and have been involved in breastfeeding counseling
in assorted capacities for over   8 years.  It's not a matter of dedication
to breastfeeding promotion for me.  It's a matter of  time available.

I will say that when I heard  about the possibility of  L&D nurses in my
facility having a chance to  administer that "all important" eye ointment,
I was all for it.  That way,  our babies wouldn't have to be to NBN within
that hour, and I could spend  more time with  mom and baby.  Also, if we
were able to keep  babies longer in L&D, surely we could keep the mothers
with them.  :-)
