On ours we tell moms that if they need an answer before we are again
in the office, to call our Nurse-on-Line service.  Many of the
nurses there are former OB RNs (especially on the night hours).
Many have taken the same competency re breastfeeding as the OB
nurses.  They feel free to ask us for info to keep them current, and
the have the Breastfeeding Answer Book as one of their references.
If they get a question they feel needs follow-up, they leave us a
message to call that mom in the AM.
It would be great if we could have an "on call" system for those
situations NOL doesn't feel comfortable handling, but we have
limited LC staff and not enough hours (although some have felt
comfortable calling me at home-I don't mind as long as it doesn't
get out of hand.  For my own sanity, I do have to be able to have a
life outside LC work (much as I love it-I don't want to burn out).
