I have had a client whose baby got rickets at around a year of life.
The family is African American, and mom has a health problem and several
children, so they did not get out much. This particular baby had a
tongue tie, and had difficulty handling solids, though she breastfed
well. All this added up to enough "hits" that she got a vit D deficiency.

Risk is a statistical thing. Some people smoke for their whole
lifetime, and never get lung cancer, heart disease, or emphysema. But
the odds are against them. We need to pay attention to risk factors,
and educate parents accordingly so they can make wise decisions for
their families.
