Actually both of these products are in children's cough  med like
Robitussin.  The guaifenesin is the expectorant, used to reduce plegm
viscosity.  Does not suppress cough.  "Usefulness of this product as an
expectorant is highly questionable."  ie: It doesn't work. Can do same
thing by drinking lots of fluids.   Dextromethorphan is a weak antitussive
used in children and adults, according to Hale "routinely used in children
and infants....no data on transfer into human milk....very unlikely that
enough would transfer via human milk  to provide clinically significant
levels in a breastfed infant."  above gleaned from Hale, 2000.  Sounds like
she needs the "hard" stuff for that cough, something with codeine - which
also won't bother an older baby in usual doses.  Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
