I kept hitting the same problem- no " accurate" patient information given
to mom's regarding the Depo 6 week recommendation.  What I found has
worked is using Physician based information to bring them up to date.
Two articles have worked VERY well. In my passive aggressive manner I
began with copying  these two articles, underlining the Depo sections and
posting them in both the nurses station and at the physicians dictation
area. I also sent copies of them to the OB  and Neo Chiefs for their
review.
 The first one is from Pfizer. It's the letter they sent out this last
November to all Healthcare organization leaders and discusses the new
findings that Depo, especially used long term can cause a reduction in
bone mineral density and may place patients at risk for osteoporotitis.
 The second is from AGOG's Educational Bulletin #258 " Breastfeeding:
Maternal and Infant Aspects" written in July 2000 where it clearly
outlines that OB physicians should try and avoid oral or injectable
contraceptives during the first few weeks after delivery and then trial
the mom on a low dose mini-pill.
  The impact is always much greater and more " recognized" it seems when I
can present it from the medical sources. :)
