This is a question from a colleague of mine, a pediatric nutritionist who is
working on her PhD in the field of childhood obesity. She recently came
across the NHANES data printed in the Am. J. of Clin. Nutr. 2000; 72(1):
159-167, where it appears that they show that the "protective" effect of
breastfeeding against obesity is only present between 8 - 11 months of age.
After that, between 1 and 5 years of age there is no difference in growth or
weight gain between breastfed and formula fed infants.

She would like any of you who have seen the data or understand it better to
help her explain this NHANES finding. Please Email her privately if you can
help, her Email is [log in to unmask]

Thanks,

lizabeth Berkeley, MPH, IBCLC (my brand new credential!!!yea!!!)
