Thanks Kathy and Katherine... that is exactly what we started with...

The parents said that she gasped and choked on the Avent bottle nipple as
well. Perhaps I will be able to assess that myself, but these are not
first time parents and they do know how to bottle feed in a more
breastfeeding friendly way so I am inclined to believe them.

Interestingly enough, we did go over the 5 S's but they did NOT work for
this baby. I guess I did forget to mention that I did a good swaddle to
try and center this baby, thinking maybe this was contributing to the
problems... but it didn't seem to help much if at all. We did all the
other 5 S's and it still did not trigger any calming. Remember the 5 S's
are useful for a baby who does NOT have a physical problem. They don't
work for all babies. So anyway, since they didn't work at that time, there
was no point in buying the video or book.

The fingerfeeding was to work on suck only... not to supplement or
anything. More to give the baby some positive reinforcement for a good
suck and only for a few minutes before latching baby to breast. In any
case, they did not take the tube and syringe home with them. I think it
will be just as useful for them to do simple suck training with Dad's
finger, then to mess with fingerfeeding.

I think I also forgot to mention that this baby won't take a pacifier, for
what that's worth.

Regarding the tongue tie or possible tongue tie... I don't really see how
that tongue could be clipped, but I do understand your point. If I can
actually talk to someone, I will try to bring that up. But this is
military and we don't have much luck with military hcps worrying about
mom's pain. Maybe if it is effecting baby eating period, they might pay
attention. Here's hoping....

Thanks for all you feedback.

Cindi
