Hi Valerie,
Your question about the decline in rates is fascinating to me. We really
need to understand the context of women's lives and how they experience
their breasts and bodies; I agree that the problem is not just marketing,
and additionally, the solution is not just more information. My
dissertation is a phenomenology of the experience of women who choose not
to breastfeed. I think Susan Bordo's work on anorexia is a compellingly
similar situation and am using her ideas to construct my discussion. Are
you familiar with her work?
